Harness the Energy in Agricultural Waste

Sustainability is ideal for the agriculture industry and the planet as a whole, but is it good for business? Absolutely, assuming you’re strategic in your efforts.

All this just scratches the surface. Keep reading to learn how biomass gasification works and the many ways it can benefit the industry, your business, and our planet.

How It Works

Here is a high-level overview of how biomass gasification works and how your business (and the planet) can benefit from it.

Rather than dumping your waste into landfills (where it decomposes, releasing carbon back into the atmosphere), you can use a gasifier built in a shipping container that you store onsite.

The controlled heating process releases syngas, a carbon-neutral gas. At the same time, it sequesters carbon (which plants absorb from the atmosphere during their lifetimes) from organic waste, resulting in biochar.

The process converts biomass into a carbon-negative energy source (better than carbon neutral), which you can use or sell. You can also sell the biochar, a byproduct of gasification.

Benefits for Your Business

Biomass gasification has real benefits for the planet, which we’ll get to below, but let’s first cover what’s in it for folks like you in the agriculture industry.

Renewable energy you can use : Our gasifiers produce Syngas, which you can use as an energy source in its raw form (such as heating for industrial processes) or convert into electricity. We can configure them to produce hydrogen as well.

Extra revenue (energy sales) : Instead of using all the energy you produce from Syngas, you can sell it back to the grid or sell it directly to consumers.

Biochar sales: You can sell biochar, a byproduct of the gasification process, to farmers or folks in the construction industry.

Carbon credits : Carbon credits and carbon offsets offer an additional revenue stream for green businesses. Selling carbon credits through platforms like Puro creates extra income by letting companies profit from their carbon reductions while helping the environment.

Government incentives : Going green may give you access to a variety of government incentives. It can also open the door to doing business with European Union (EU) countries in many cases, since the EU has various environmental requirements for foreign imports.

Better for business : More and more businesses and consumers prefer doing business with green companies. According to Forbes, 88% of consumers are more loyal to environmentally friendly organizations.

Biomass gasification offers a strong return on your investment, but that’s only half the equation. It also helps on a planet that needs cleaner air and more sustainable energy sources.

Benefits for Planet Earth

The agriculture industry has long led on sustainable practices and conservation, and biomass gasification is another way for your company to stay ahead.

Biomass gasification addresses two major challenges at once: waste management and energy generation. It keeps organic waste out of landfills, produces carbon-neutral energy, and reduces the risk of wildfires.

Biomass is part of the natural carbon cycle. The CO₂ released during gasification was absorbed from the atmosphere during the plant’s lifetime, and the vast majority of it is safely sequestered within the biochar.

This makes biomass gasification one of the cleanest forms of energy available to the planet. And rather than dumping waste into landfills, it produces biochar, a valuable byproduct that has a number of useful applications (e.g., soil enhancement, water filtration, carbon sequestration, improving crop yields in agriculture).
